Travel with the MFA to Paris and London

Patron Program Committee

From October 15 to 23, join fellow MFA Patrons on a special tour to Paris and London with Helen Burnham, Pamela and Peter Voss Curator of Prints, and Katie Hanson, assistant curator, Painting, Art of Europe, to get a unique perspective on Matisse and his fellow artists and discuss their art with top experts.

Helen and Katie have both lived and worked in Paris, speak French fluently, and have colleagues in the area, providing a unique viewpoint. In Paris, the tour includes private visits to several outstanding museums such as:

  • Musée Gustave Moreau, the marvelously evocative home and studio gallery of the renowned Symbolist painter, who was Matisse’s teacher and influencer
  • Musée Marmottan Monet, the largest holding of Monet paintings in any museum, along with works from his own collection, including artists such as Delacroix, Corot, Manet, and Rodin
  • Musée Dapper, well known for its exhibitions on all aspects of African art and culture
  • Centre Pompidou and the Musée National D’Art Moderne, with Europe’s largest collection of 20th-century art
  • FIAC, the 44th International Contemporary Art Fair

Journey north to Matisse’s birthplace and experience the Musée Matisse du Cateau-Cambrésis, with a large 170-work Matisse collection. Then, the tour mirrors Matisse’s own travel to London with a visit to the London exhibition of “Matisse in the Studio” at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Patrons enjoy the opportunity to meet several curators—including Patrice Deparpe, director of the Musée Matisse du Cateau-Cambrésis, as well as curator Ann Dumas and creative director Tim Marlowe at the Royal Academy of Arts—and explore the collections with them, getting a unique insight into the art and artists. Throughout the trip, enjoy great dining experiences in distinctive settings and Michelin-starred restaurants.
