Every summer conservators carry out condition assessment, documentation, and treatment on the more than 30 outdoor sculptures that grace the MFA campus. The sculptures are made of a variety of different materials, including bronze, stone, and fiberglass. Their exposure to pollution and extreme environmental conditions, from snow and ice in winter to intense heat and ultraviolet radiation in summer, present many maintenance and preservation challenges. Come on this walking tour to hear more about the measures conservators take to ensure the sculptures can remain outside safely.

With Evelyn Mayberger, assistant conservator, Objects Conservation Laboratory, assisted by Naomi Brill and Melina Edic, MFA Pathways conservation pre-program interns.

Free with general admission. No advance registration or tickets required. Due to space constraints, tours are limited to 25 participants (first come, first served). Tours meet at Sharf Visitor Center.
