Learn about the conservation treatment and scientific study of this rare 15th-century altarpiece by Bartolomeo Vivarini. The central element of this monumental work is a polychrome sculpture of the Pietà. Through close looking, explore how the multimedia artifact was transformed during the yearslong effort to prepare it for display, and hear what conservators discovered about the Pietà and its relationship to the nine painted panels and the original frame.
