Calligraphic Batiks from Sumatra

In 2024 the MFA became one of few museums in the world to house a notable collection of rare Indonesian batiks with designs influenced by Muslim culture. Study these new acquisitions up close with curators from our Art of Asia and Fashion, Textiles, and Jewelry departments to learn how wax-resist textiles are made and preserved across generations, and about Muslim communities of Indonesia.
