Strengthening and Supporting the MFA’s Collection
Soon after the MFA opened in 1870, Bostonians donated art to build the foundation of the Museum’s collection. Since then, generous donors have contributed to the Museum’s collection, whether through gifts of art, funds designated for the purchase of art, or funds for the care and conservation of the collection itself. This support includes transformative gifts made in recent years.
This tradition of generosity continues with you. Gifts of art and funds for the purchase of art allow the Museum to continue to build and enhance a world-renowned collection—enriching our understanding of the past and revealing the unfolding story of the present. Providing resources for the care and conservation of our collection ensures the MFA’s ability to share art with the public and steward the collection for future generations to enjoy. Along with donors who make gifts of art, the Museum gratefully acknowledges donors who provide funds to support the collection with recognition in the Denman Waldo Ross Society.
