Karen Hampton is an internationally recognized contemporary textile artist whose work engages with race and kinship within the African American diaspora. Her work Memories (1990), where she creatively experimented with the traditional structure of West African kente cloth, is featured in the exhibition, "Touching Roots: Black Ancestral Legacies in the Americas."
