Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Cariuma Collaboration Features Hokusai Works from Museum’s Renowned Collection of Japanese Art

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), and Cariuma, the ethical shoe brand, have been working together on an exciting collaboration with works from the museum’s renowned collection of Japanese art. In March Cariuma is debuting new sneakers featuring an iconic work by Katsushika Hokusai, one of the most acclaimed and influential artists of all time. The MFA is excited to share works in the collection with its audiences in new and creative ways.

Hokusai is best known for his powerful prints and paintings that embody the sheer magnitude of nature and the essence of Japanese culture. In September 2023, Cariuma introduced three sneaker styles with the “Great Wave” (Under the Wave off Kanagawa); in October 2023 (on Hokusai’s birthday), they debuted four styles with “Warriors in Combat” (Watanabe no Gengo Tsuna and Inokuma Nyūdō Raiun); and in March 2024, they're launching two styles with "Peonies and Canary";(Shakuyaku, kanaari) from an untitled series known as Small Flowers.
