Directed by Hajooj Kuka (Sudan, 2018, 78 min.). Digital. Arabic with English subtitles.

An offbeat Sudanese love story set in a time of civil war. Adnan is a Sudanese war hero whose love for his AK-47 is rivaled only by his feelings for Lina, his long-suffering sweetheart. When Adnan is late to return to his military unit after leave, the army commander launches a “kasha,” a roundup and arrest of truant soldiers. Distracted by Lina, Adnan is caught off guard and makes a run for it. He teams up with pacifist Absi, who is also dodging the kasha. Together, these two unlikely friends plot ways to reunite Adnan with his gun—and with Lina—while avoiding the roundup. Through a series of wry and humorous incidents over a fateful 24 hours, aKasha offers a rare window into life, love, and ideology in rebel-held areas of Sudan.
