Directed by John Singleton (USA, 1991, 112 min.). Digital.

In honor of late director John Singleton (1968–2019), join us for a screening of his first and most iconic film, Boyz n the Hood. This unflinching drama follows Tre (Cuba Gooding Jr.), who is sent to live with his father, Furious Styles (Larry Fishburne), in tough South Central Los Angeles. Although his hard-nosed father instills values and respect in his son, and his devout girlfriend Brandi (Nia Long) teaches him about faith, Tre's friends Doughboy (Ice Cube) and Ricky (Morris Chestnut) don't have the same kind of support and are drawn into the neighborhood's booming drug and gang culture, with increasingly tragic results.

"A film any seasoned director would be proud of, but as a debut is nothing short of amazing."—Empire

Preceded by a discussion with actor Morris Chestnut and Lisa Simmons, director of the Roxbury International Film Festival.

Co-presented with the Collier Connection and Roxbury International Film Festival.
