Directed by Sally Potter (UK/Russia/Italy, 1992, 94 min.). Digital.

Directed by Sally Potter (The Party) and based on the novel by Virginia Woolf, this subtle fantasy begins in the year 1600, when a nobleman named Orlando (Tilda Swinton) inherits an estate thanks to Queen Elizabeth (Quentin Crisp) under the provision that he must never grow old. To Orlando’s surprise, he is able to obey the queen’s request, remaining perennially young over the subsequent decades. Another surprise comes one morning when Orlando discovers he has transformed into a woman, forcing her to fight for the right to retain her property.
