Berklee College of Music student Farzin Dehghan talks about the history, repertoire, and playing technique of a “spike fiddle” known as a kamanche, which is played throughout much of the Middle East and the Caucasus region. Dehghan demonstrates the haunting but versatile sound of this instrument with Iranian examples from his own collection, and a very old and highly decorated Persian instrument on loan to the MFA from the BSO will be on hand for comparison.
