Monrovia, Indiana

November 3–24, 2018

Documentary directed by Frederick Wiseman (USA, 2018, 143 min.). Digital.

On the heels of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, MFA Film is proud to present the Boston premiere of the new film by master documentarian Frederick Wiseman: Monrovia, Indiana. Forty-six million Americans live in rural towns like Monrovia, towns that were once the backbone of American life. While their number and populations have shrunk, the political importance of small towns was demonstrated in the 2016 presidential election. This film explores the values and social character of middle America.

“Every cliché and talking point I’ve absorbed about the American heartland since the last presidential election was challenged by Mr. Wiseman’s observations of democracy at work in a rural Midwestern town.” -- A.O.Scott, The New York Times
