As staff preparations ramp up over the summer, we will host a range of outdoor events on the MFA’s campus starting in September, including concerts and films in partnership with the Roxbury International Film Festival.

Please consider supporting the Museum, its art, and its programs with a gift to the MFA Fund.

Class Options

The kids program is intended for ages 5–11. Classes are broken down into age appropriate groups, 5–6, 7–8, and 9–11. Classes meet once a week on Saturday or Sunday for ten week sessions that meet during the fall, winter, and spring. Students explore the Museum’s galleries, then respond to what they have seen through drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking projects, and more.

Designed for children ages 4–5, who are accompanied by an adult. Preschool sessions meet once a week on Sunday mornings or afternoons for five weeks during the Fall, Winter and Spring. Classes combine a gallery experience with an art project in the studio classroom.

A great way for any preschooler to explore art!

Summer Art Classes at the MFA consist of five-day, morning or afternoon course that focuses on a specific theme. Groups of up to twelve children (grouped by age 5–7, 6–8, 8–10, and 9–11) discover new places and cultures; visit our galleries; and draw, paint, sculpt, collage, print, and more in the studio classroom. Themes include Portraits, Still Lifes and Landscapes, Artful Adornment: Wearable Art, Museum Menagerie, Passport through the Collection, and more! Please note that registration for summer classes ends at 12 pm the Friday before the class is scheduled to start.

Looking for something for your child to do over during February or April vacation weeks? The MFA offers Tuesday–Friday art classes for kids. Each morning and afternoon class focuses on a specific theme. Groups of up to 12 children (grouped by age) discover new places and cultures; visit our galleries; draw, paint, sculpt, collage, and print in studio art classrooms.

Sign your child up for just the morning, just the afternoon or have them come for both sessions! We also offer supervised lunch and late pickup options to extend your child's fun at the museum.
