Directed by Ilppo Pohjola (Finland, 1991 55 min.). Finnish and English with English subtitles.
Thirty-nine years after its conception, Wicked Queer continues to exhibit bold, compelling films that demonstrate the variety and depth of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. This year’s festival takes place throughout Boston, with three feature films and a variety of shorts screening at the MFA. Winner of the Jury Prize in the 2022 Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, Joyland is a human portrayal of the limits of love in the face of patriarchy. In The Blue Caftan, after a husband and wife hire a young man to help run their shop, the wife slowly realizes how much her husband is moved by the presence of this new employee. And Daddy and the Muscle Academy looks at the life of artist Tom of Finland, whose drawings have had an enormous influence on gay identity.
