Months in the making, “Community Arts Initiative: Empowered Faces” opened at the MFA on June 3, 2022. In this 12-minute video celebration, hear from Dr. Mariel Novas, Patti and Jonathan Kraft Chief of Learning and Community Engagement, who offers welcoming remarks, and artist Perla Mabel, who recounts her favorite memories of working with young artists from the Museum’s Community Arts Initiative partners to create the exhibition’s dazzling layered installation. Then enjoy a montage of the young artists working together in person and over Zoom and making art, set to an original song by students from Sociedad Latina and Joel Colon’s “Salsa with Joel.”
