In this three-minute video, step into the creation of Brazilian artist Rosângela Rennó’s Fazendo a América (2025), a new commission that explores the lives of Brazilians in Greater Boston, which has one of the largest Brazilian communities in the United States. Struck by both the richness of this community and the fear so many quietly carry today, Rennó created 48 large-scale portraits that hide each subject’s face beneath a hat—honoring their humanity while protecting their identity. Together, these images ask us an urgent question: Who are the people truly making America?
