Through the Eyes of Turner

As rapid industrialization and social and political upheaval gripped much of Europe in the 19th century, J. M. W. Turner trailblazed a dizzyingly modern style of painting that suited his changing times. This video introduces the dramatic compositions in “Turner’s Modern World,” which explores how the artist married contemporary subjects to a radical approach that anticipated artistic innovations still some hundred years in the future.
