Directed by Wim Wenders (Germany, 2023, 93 min.). German and English with English subtitles.
In Anselm, Wim Wenders creates a portrait of Anselm Kiefer, one of the most innovative and important artists of our time. The film presents a cinematic experience of Kiefer’s paintings and sculptures, which explore human existence and the cyclical nature of history, inspired by literature, poetry, philosophy, science, mythology, and religion. For over two years, Wenders traced the artist’s path—from his native Germany to his current home in France—connecting the stages of his life to the essential places of his career that has spanned more than five decades.
Though this film was shot in 3D, it is presented at the MFA in standard 2D.
