Directed by Walter Salles (Brazil and France, 2024, 137 min.). Portuguese with English subtitles.
Based on a true story, I’m Still Here follows Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), a woman whose husband, congressman Rubens Paiva, was arrested and disappeared during Brazil’s military dictatorship. In the wake of his loss, Eunice channels her grief into activism, becoming a human rights lawyer and a fierce advocate for Indigenous rights. Spanning decades, the film is a poignant portrait of resilience, justice, and the lasting scars of political oppression. Acclaimed for its powerful storytelling, I’m Still Here earned multiple award nominations, including for Best Picture at the 2025 Oscars, with Torres winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
