Directed by Leyla Bouzid (France and Tunisia, 2026, 111 min.). French and Arabic with English subtitles.

Following the sudden death of her uncle, Lilia (newcomer Eya Bouteraa) returns to Tunisia with her girlfriend, but she keeps her relationship hidden from her family. As Lilia reunites with her mother, grandmother, and the other women in her family, the circumstances surrounding her uncle’s death begin to raise questions, particularly as his own sexuality was long kept secret. Confronted with the parallels between her uncle’s life and her own, Lilia is forced to reckon with the costs of secrecy and what it means to live and love openly.

The third feature from Tunisian filmmaker Leyla Bouzid (As I Open My Eyes), In a Whisper is a nuanced and deeply felt portrait of queer identity, family, and generational silence.
