Directed by Pedro Almodóvar (Spain, France, and USA, 2021, 123 min.). Spanish with English subtitles.

Join us on Mother’s Day for a screening of Pedro Almodóvar’s vivid drama featuring an award-winning turn by Penélope Cruz. When photographer Janis (Cruz) and teenage mother Ana (Milena Smit) meet in a maternity ward after giving birth on the same day, their lives become unexpectedly entwined. What begins as a chance connection gradually deepens into a complex relationship shaped by motherhood, secrets, and the lingering weight of history.

Blending intimate melodrama with political reckoning, Pedro Almodóvar crafts one of his most emotionally layered films, weaving together questions of identity, generational trauma, and Spain’s unresolved memory of the Civil War. Anchored by remarkable performances, Parallel Mothers moves between the personal and the historical with the director’s signature warmth, color, and emotional intensity.

“Luminous but down to earth … a film of cascading twists and turns, of thickening complication, of high family drama … a giddy and ironic Almodóvarian stew of maternal diva melodrama.” —Variety
