Directed by Lior Ashkenazi (Israel, 2021, 90 min.). Hebrew with English subtitles.
A group of old friends, a promise to share secrets, and a rare lunar eclipse: these three ingredients make for the lively evening that unfolds in beloved Israeli actor Lior Ashkenazi’s directorial debut. Perfect Strangers is a darkly comedic ensemble piece about human nature that follows seven Israeli friends who meet for a dinner party. For fun they agree to share every text message, call, or notification that appears on their phones. A game that begins on a playful whim soon turns uncomfortable as each friend struggles to account for their long-held secrets that are suddenly laid bare.
Followed by a live virtual conversation with Director Lior Ashkenazi, moderated in-person by Wesleyan University Visiting Professor and Israeli film critic Avner Shavit.
