Directed by Carlota Pereda (Spain, 2022, 90 min.). Spanish with English subtitles.

In the sweltering summer in rural Spain, teenage Sara endures bullying from her peers and constant criticism from her family. Her one source of pleasure and escape is a daily dip in the neighborhood pool. One day, after three girls bully her viciously during her swim, Sara discovers her tormenters being threatened with violence by a sinister stranger and must choose between mercy and vengeance. Equal parts delicate character study and grindhouse gore fest, Carlota Pereda’s bold adaptation of her 2018 short film will leave you both gutted and moved. Piggy premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Co-presented with Cinefest Latino Boston and Independent Film Festival Boston.

“Smartly mashes up thriller, rural drama and comedy elements into a lovingly-crafted, potently atmospheric, and thought-provoking whole—with bucketsful of horrible blood thrown in for good measure.” —ScreenDaily
