Meet in Sharf Visitor Center
Calligraphy may be best known as a way to create flourished handwriting, but artists have used calligraphic principles in their pen and ink drawings for centuries. The tip of feather pens, reeds, and metal nibs have unique influences on the shape and thickness of the drawn line. Additionally, aging of the ingredients in ink help conservators identify the methods artists used to create their drawings. Join this opportunity to look at a selection of works from the 17th to 20th centuries, to appreciate the beauty of linemaking up close and learn how drawing with pen and ink progressed over time.
