Get a sneak peak at a luxurious red velvet evening dress undergoing treatment for the upcoming exhibition “Fashioned by Sargent”. The bodice and skirt ensemble was worn by society hostess Mrs. Charles E. Inches in her 1887 portrait by John Singer Sargent. In addition to learning about its intriguing alterations, construction, and materials, hear about the cause of the silk shatter in the lining and conservation efforts to support the tears so the dress can be safely displayed.

With Kate Clive-Powell, Sherman Fairchild Fellow, Gabriella and Leo Beranek Textile Conservation Laboratory.

Free with general admission. No advance registration or tickets required. Due to space constraints, tours are limited to 12 participants (first come, first served). Tours meet at Sharf Visitor Center. Assistive listening devices available upon request.
