In the age of the smartphone, we are constantly capturing images of life as it flows around us. In the exhibition “Faces in the Crowd: Street Photography,” master photographers reveal the impact found in the everyday. Art for centuries served primarily religion, myth, and power, but in this Looking Together, explore certain periods where the representation of daily life became a focus. Consider men and women working, playing, relaxing, and carousing on ancient Greek vases and in 17th-century Dutch paintings; and discover French Impressionist painters who answered Baudelaire’s call for “a painter of modern life” through scenes from the boulevard and the ballet. What do such images tell us about these eras, our own, and timeless human behavior?
