Performance begins in Gallery 119 and moves through various locations across the Museum.
HERitage emBODYment presents Sekhmet Unraveled, a multimodal, multilingual (English, Arabic, Fadija, and Coptic) performance that blends poetry, movement, and theatre to connect contemporary life with ancestral memory. Created as a response to the MFA’s Egyptian and Nubian galleries, the work re-authors the histories of Egyptology and what it means to be Egyptian, Nubian, and American. Through poetic storytelling, song, ritual, and humor, Sekhmet Unraveled invites audiences to reimagine how they engage with history, art, and heritage in a museum space and beyond.
The 45-minute performance is followed by a 15-minute Q and A with the ensemble.
HERitage emBODYment is excited to bring Sekhment Unraveled to the MFA thanks to funding from the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Theater Project, lead funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and additional support from the Doris Duke Foundation.
This performance takes place throughout the Museum galleries. Audience members are expected to stand or walk during the performance. Learn more about the MFA’s accessibility accommodations.
