Welcome Letter from Joy Kant

Patron Program Committee

Welcome to the Winter 2017 issue of the MFA Patrons newsletter. In these pages, you will find a behind-the-scenes look at our photography collection and the curatorial staff that supports it, insight into what it is like to be a member of our Patron Program Committee, testimonials from Patrons who have traveled with the MFA Travel Program, and a new section entitled “What the Patron Program Supports.” We have also included a list of upcoming Patron events for 2017 that I hope you will be able to attend.

I am sure that you will agree that this past fall has been a very busy season. The Museum has been alive with mfaNOW Overnights; Christian Marclay’s The Clock; Frances Stark’s first East Coast venue for the retrospective “UH-OH”; the opening of “William Merritt Chase”; the Della Robbia show; and the fascinating all-Patron event “How Curators Think.”

Looking ahead to the new year, the first Patron event of 2017 will be “Close Up: Art of the Ancient World” on January 23. Save the date for the exhibition opening of “Matisse in the Studio” this spring on April 3. With winter upon us, I hope that you will visit the five-gallery exhibition, “Making Modern” on the third floor of the Art of the Americas Wing, highlighted by the MFA’s newly acquired Frida Kahlo painting Dos Mujeres. Spending a day at the MFA is as if you are traveling the world and learning about other cultures. I highly recommend it.

In my role as Chair, I see firsthand the impact of our Patron support on the quality and the financial strength of our Museum. I have also had the pleasure of working with curators and staff who care deeply about the MFA and want the Museum to be one of the best in the world.

Thank you for supporting the MFA through the Patron Program. I look forward to seeing you at the next Patron event.

Wishing you a happy, healthy New Year!

All the best,

Joy Kant
