In 2017, two local families, Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo and Susan and Matthew Weatherbie, donated their exceptional collections of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish art to the MFA, constituting the largest gift of European paintings in the Museum’s history. Spend time in the MFA’s galleries of Dutch and Flemish art, where works from this recent gift are in conversation with longstanding highlights from Museum’s collection. Explore the intricacies of this art, discussing various themes such as art markets, painters’ guilds, training, and techniques by going directly into the museum galleries. Gain insight into the rich cultural and artistic landscape of the 17th century as depicted by Dutch and Flemish artists.
