Join Susan Alyson Stein to learn about how Vincent van Gogh became known and appreciated on this side of the Atlantic. The fascinating history, retraced with a veteran scholar’s eye for detail, covers key moments that have until recently escaped wider attention and highlights the defining role Van Gogh’s portraits—including those of the Roulin family—were destined to enjoy in American collections and exhibitions from the start.

Susan Alyson Stein, Engelhard Curator of 19th-Century European Painting, Metropolitan Museum of Art
