Directed by Karen Chapman (Canada, 2024, 83 min.).
While providing for and protecting her two teenage children, Tamika and Tristin, Jean begrudgingly lives with her mother in a crowded Lawrence Heights apartment complex. Despite teaching her kids to become more self-sufficient, Jean is too troubled by the past to let them fully grow up. She is haunted by violence and must help her children cope.
Expertly using sound and flashbacks to construct a layered portrait of this woman’s life, director Karen Chapman reveals the trials and tribulations that women in Jean’s family carry with them.
Official Selection at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
