Boston Festival of Films from Iran

The Boston Festival of Films from Iran returns, showcasing new and restored gems from a nation that has consistently produced some of the world’s most compelling cinema in spite of stringent artistic censorship. This year’s lineup includes Jafar Panahi’s Cannes-lauded It Was Just an Accident, a gripping study of guilt and state power; Abbas Kiarostami’s luminous Certified Copy, screening in honor of its 15th anniversary; Bahman Ghobadi’s stirring Cutting Through Rocks, a portrait of a female city councilor fighting to end forced marriage; Armin Kousha’s psychological thriller The Things You Kill; the surreal Black Rabbit, White Rabbit; Aliyar Rasti’s wry debut The Great Yawn of History; and a new restoration of Kiarostami’s landmark Taste of Cherry, whose quiet philosophical power continues to reverberate across world cinema.
