Brydie O’Connor’s documentary traces Hammer’s five-decade career alongside rarely seen documentation of her artistic process, relationships, and embodied practice, foregrounding her radical commitment to lesbian visibility and experimental form. Both an introduction for new audiences and a moving tribute for longtime admirers, Barbara Forever considers how Hammer shaped film history while envisioning new ways of living, aging, and creating.
