Directed by Nadim Güç. (Türkiye, 2024, 90 min.). Turkish with English subtitles.

A heartwarming and humorous tale of female empowerment set in the small Black Sea town of Cide in Kastamonu, Fate follows Sultan, a grieving widow who shocks her family by announcing her plan to remarry. Her son, steeped in tradition, strongly opposes the idea, while her daughter, though supportive, worries Sultan is acting too quickly. Determined to reclaim her independence, Sultan defies societal norms and enters the male-dominated business world with sharp wit and fearless resolve. Her bold actions inspire other women in the town to challenge their traditional roles, forging their own paths with laughter and solidarity.

A celebration of resilience and self-discovery, Fate won Best Film, Best Actress (Nur Sürer), and Best Supporting Actor (Osman Sonant) at the prestigious Antalya Film Festival.

Winner of the Best Short Film Audience Award at the Boston Turkish Festival’s 19th Documentary and Short Film Competition, Such Things Don’t Happen in This World (Dünyada Öyle Şeyler Olmuyor) is a haunting exploration of familial tension and psychological distress. After a once-successful career in Ankara, Recep is forced to return to his rural hometown and his father’s house due to severe mental turmoil. His erratic behavior unsettles the village and fills his father with shame and anger. One night, the father dreams that his son will kill him—only to wake with relief, realizing it was just a nightmare.
