The Art of Clay Sculpture: Shaping Modern Bengal
Like the painters and printers who created the color lithographs in the exhibition “Divine Color: Hindu Prints from Modern Bengal,” clay sculptors from the region also responded to new technologies connected to Europe and China that increased access to materials, techniques, and styles. Explore the ways clay sculptors adapted cosmopolitan resources to meet the changing needs of their clientele, and how their work intersected with practitioners in other genres, including painting and lithography, energizing a dynamic shift in art production and patronage and actively shaping the visual culture of modern Bengal.
