Occurring every Wednesday
Gods and goddesses, mythological monsters, the tragedies of the Trojan War, and the details of daily life—all are represented with extraordinary artistry on the painted pottery of ancient Greece. The MFA holds one of the world’s great collections of Greek vases, presenting an opportunity to study the skills and imaginations of both potters and painters in depth. With each session in this Looking Together, take a deep dive in different aspects of Greek vase painting, starting with an explanation of technique. Visit the galleries and look at objects from other parts of the Museum’s collection to compare and contrast—from Maya ceramics to French painting to the work of the Black potters of Edgefield, South Carolina.
