On Barbara, Barrie Lindsay’s first self-produced album, and second under the moniker Barrie, the musician and songwriter confronts the loss of a parent, the start of a new relationship, and the impulse to separate herself from her music. This result is a beautifully peculiar and quietly ambitious collection of synth-pop, art-pop, indie rock, and folk songs that reflect a new willingness to let listeners into her world.
After releasing the debut album Happy To Be Here in 2019, Lindsay reconceived Barrie—originally a five-piece ensemble—as a solo project. This decision coincided with two events that redefined Lindsay’s life and shaped Barbara: in the summer of 2019, she met her now wife, musician Gabby Smith. Simultaneously, her father was battling lung cancer. Lindsay wrote Barbara in the midst of the pandemic, quarantining with Smith in Maine while her father was dying, and while she was falling in love.
Born and raised in Ipswich, Massachusetts, Barrie brings her unique brand of big, layered sounds to Concerts in the Courtyard.
With opening act Lutalo.
