Kanō Natsuo was one of the most famous Japanese metalworkers of the late Edo and early Meiji periods (mid to late 19th century). The MFA is fortunate to have many works by this celebrated artist, several of which are currently on display. Learn about his skillful design and fabrication techniques, as illustrated by this sword and decorative lacquer sheath, and consider the very particular care required for these objects.

With Linsly Boyer, associate conservator, Objects Conservation Laboratory.

Free with general admission. No advance registration or tickets required. Talks meet at Sharf Visitor Center.
