Directed by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra (Brazil/France, 2017, 135 min.). Digital. Portuguese with English subtitles.
Clara, a lonely caregiver from the outskirts of São Paulo, is hired by the wealthy and eccentric Ana to be a nanny for Ana’s unborn child. Settling into her plush new job, Clara soon discovers that her employer has a ravenous appetite for meat and troubling urges during full moons. With thrilling twists and a healthy dose of gore, this allegorical fantasy also offers sly commentary on endemic class disparity in Brazil.
“Good Manners is a dark, gothic fairy tale—drawing equal parts inspiration from Angela Carter, Jacques Tourneur, and John Landis—meticulously blending reality and fantasy into an unforgettably chimerical film.”—The Seattle International Film Festival
